SEIC Winner Receives $198,020 Award

St. Louis, Missouri , June 20, 2007 -

St. Louis-based Meds and Food for Kids (MFK), a 2006 SEIC winner, continues its growth and recognition. They recently received a prestigious World Bank development marketplace award for $198,020 to continue fighting early childhood starvation in Haiti. MFK was one of 22 projects out of 2,880 that were awarded grants from a $4 million pool co-funded by the World Bank’s Development Marketplace competitive grant program and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

MFK fights childhood malnutrition in Haiti, where about 20 percent of all children under age five are malnourished.   They manufacture and distribute a high protein, high fat peanut butter paste called Mediki Mamba, which allows Haitian children to quickly recover from malnourishment.  They also provide medical services and education.  MFK hopes to accelerate the World Health Organization acceptance of this product as a recommended global standard for treating starving children.
The nonprofit group will use the new grant to expand its work through a partnership with Justinien Hospital and Louise Camp, a regional Haitian public hospital and clinic.  Visit their website
