Positive Outcomes for Creating Change
Creating Change Receives $187,000 in Grants
St. Louis, Missouri , June 20, 2007
- While Creating Change, a participant of the 2006 Social Entrepreneurship Innovation Competition (SEIC), did not win the competition, they have been recognized recently in other ways. The St. Louis Office for Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities awarded them a $157,000 grant, and they received an additional $30,000 capital grant from the St. Louis Mental Health Board. Creating Change provides 24-hour respite care, free of charge, for caregivers who have boys between the ages of 13 and 17 with serious emotional disturbances. The services cater to a teen-centered program that teaches life skills such as money management, social development, instructional education and self-care. The organization strives to reduce abuse and neglect among emotionally disturbed teens and reduce juvenile delinquency referrals. Creating Change will use these funds to invest in new equipment, make capital improvements and fund additional programs so they can continue helping families in the St. Louis community.
